Question: I am an instructor. What can I do if I have any questions regarding required textbooks?

Answer

You may want to contact shanghai.textbooks@nyu.edu.

The library’s definition of “required textbook” may be different from common knowledge. ONLY the books that each student enrolled in your class is required to buy are considered “required textbooks” by the library.

Your Academic Associate/Academic Affairs (AA) will collect required textbooks from you before a new semester, usually by the end of May for Fall and by the end of Oct for Spring. Each student enrolled in your class must acquire these required textbooks with no exception. That means the students will either purchase one from AA or prepare one themselves and get verified at AA. For these required textbooks, the library will automatically place 1 copy on reserve, either in print or in e-format, so you don’t need to submit a request of such type.

These are NOT considered “required textbooks” by the library and you’ll need to submit a request to put them on reserve:

  • Recommend readings, reference texts and supplementary materials.
  • Book chapters are used in your class but NOT submitted to or collected by AA as required textbooks.
  • “Required texts/textbooks/materials/etc” in your syllabus but NOT submitted to or collected by AA as required textbooks.
