Question: Do students have access to Nielsen data?

Answer

Nielsen data can be very expensive and hard for libraries and students to get access to, so NYU students do not have full access to Nielsen data via Nielsen. However, there are several other ways to get to Nielsen data.

1. Nielsen makes many of its reports freely available to download; you might want to check out the "Media and Entertainment" and "Consumer" reports. More free data is available if you scroll to the bottom of their homepage under the "Insights" section as well, including lists of Top Ten Ratings, updated weekly, for the following categories: Broadcast TV Programs, Cable TV Programs, Syndicated TV Programs and more.

2) Another handy reference tool when it comes to TV shows and demographics is the journal TV Dimensions. The latest edition is located in the Bobst reference room on the first floor of the library.

3) Take a look at our Television Research Guide.
