Question: How do I find data on consumer demographics and buying behavior?

Answer

Consumer demographics involves a statistical review of data items such as population, age, gender, income, occupations, etc.  Buying behavior is the decision process used in buying products. These resources will assist with determining who are the major consumers and what do their purchases look like.

Go to the NYU Business Library's Marketing Information section for links to useful resources including links to the following suggested resources:

eMarketer: Provides data and reports.  Go to Topics and select Demographics.

MarketResearch: Go to the Demographics tab or run a text search for buyer behavior.

Mintel Reports: Go to Mintel Academic.  Academic provides detailed consumer research, sales data and market information along with analysis, context and commentary. Under Mintel Academic, click on Trends for consumer behavior information.

Passport: Provides market data and research, as well as consumer demographics and data tables.

Go to the NYU Business Library's Company & Financial Information section for links to useful resources including a link to the following suggested resource:

Mergent Intellect: Choose either Demographics which provides latest census data by zip code, MSA or Industry and/or Consumer Data which provides data on an individual's lifestyle and purchasing habits.
