Question: How do I find current betas for companies and/or industries? Also, where can I find historical betas?

Answer

Betas are the measure of volatility or systemic risk in a company compared to the market as a whole.

On the NYU Business Library's Company page, find the beta in the following databases:

Standard & Poor's NetAdvantage: (search a company name and find the beta in the Stock Quote/Chart

section)

ValueLine: (search a company name then in the box just under the company name select the 3rd horizontal bar to find the beta)

Factiva: Click on Companies/Markets in the top navigation menu. Search for a company. In the company snapshot, select Reports from the menu on the left. Next, choose Ratio Comparison Report from the drop-down, and hit the View Report button.

Search Bloomberg.  Find your company and use the code BETA.  Bloomberg stations are located on the 5th floor of Bobst Library,

For current industry betas:

Betas by Sector created by Aswath Damodaran at NYU.
